Personality: The first thing people tend to notice about Matias is how deadpan he is. His speech tends to remain at a flat tone, and his expressions are very subtle. This tends to clash with his overly dramatic actions. If Matias drops something, he will fall to his knees dramatically, grab the item, and then lay on the floor for a solid 5 minutes murmuring something about fallen brothers. His speech also varies from average college kid to wordy Shakespeare master as he has a habit of sometimes spacing out and saying his thoughts outloud, albeit in a very Shakespearean monologue. It's a side-effect of the play reenactments he and his mom used to do. He tends to be very distant with people and tries to avoid contact, though that's mostly because of his powers. Matias' sense of self-preservation doesn't win all the time because, surprisingly, he actually likes being with people, so if people go out of their way to actively seek him out (unless he's avoiding someone for a specific reason), he'll tolerate a lot (though he will feign irritation). There's also the issue of his laziness which applies to everything except his job and how clean his living quarters are. Most of the time, when there isn't anything to do, you'll find him taking a nap (or trying to take one) in some odd nook or cranny. Matias is suprisingly levelheaded and observant on the job and definitely someone you'd want to have your back in a dangerous situation.

Positive traits: Levelheaded, unflinching, loyal, tolerant, adaptable, obliging, imaginative, responsible, tidy, observant.

Negative traits: Melodramatic, standoffish, easily frustrated, pushover, distracted, weak-willed, lazy, deadpan, insecure, reclusive, untrusting.

Ability in Use: Matias's ability amplifies other ability user's powers, though he can only use it through physical contact. The more physical contact, the greater the emotional connection between Matias and the other person, and the higher emotions run at said point in time, the more bonuses the power is given. This being said, the ability is basically sucking the power out of Matias and giving it to the other. If Matias puts a palm on someone who he doesn't know well's shoulder in a fairly tame setting, the amplification lasts for about 5 minutes. At the other extreme end of the spectrum, when bonuses are high, it lasts about 20 seconds. When he's reached his limit, Matias faints, but if he somehow stays hanging on, he runs the risk of having his life force completely drained. Considering it's extremely difficult for him to turn it on and off, and it seems to be on most of the time, Matias does damage control by covering as much of himself as possible and avoiding people.

Touching a regular person raises their spirits a bit and makes them feel a little more lively, though it doesn't heal anything or take away any pain, and the feeling dissipates the second he stops touching them. It doesn't suck up as much of his energy as touching an ability user would, but it's still a sizeable amount. The same bonus rules apply as does touching an ability user, except it just augments the pleasant feeling. When an ability user is not using their power or has it switched off, this happens to them instead.

Supernatural beings have their powers amplified like an ability user's, but those that are less tangible than the ordinary being (ghosts and spirits) would become slightly more solid as they've had his life force temporarily put in them. Touching a supernatural being doesn't usually work in his favor considering most beings he'll encounter will probably be on the darker side and, if they catch wind of it, can use it to their advantage.

Background: Matias was born to a Chilean English professor & a Swedish Chemistry professor. His father, the Swedish professor, came to the university Matias' mother worked at, and the two quickly became close; however, before they got married, Matias' father was killed in an accident near a construction site. From then on, Matias was raised by a single mother.

After her boyfriend's death, Mathias' mother developed an interest in the supernatural. She was introduced to it when Matias' father revealed he was part of a group of civilians who researched these occurrences, along with the agencies that supposedly came and took care of any problems caused by the supernatural & ability users. She became a pretty renowned blogger of the supernatural, though she wrote under an alias. Slowly, she began to open up to Matias about it, though he refused to believe any of it.

In school, Matias was exceedingly lazy, but he passed. His best friend, Andres, was a different story. Andres was a sweet kid, though a delinquent, and he wrapped Matias up in a lot of his problems. At the age of 15, the two of them trespassed into a forest reservation area and encountered an animal that looked like a puma but emitted strange energy. As it turned out, Andres was a fire ability user and tried to scare it away with the flames; however, his flames were too weak. As the creature phased right in front of and swiped at Andres, Matias grabbed his scruff and the two fell back on top of each other. Andres tried his fire powers again, this time in contact with Matias, and scorched the puma. The creature ran off as Matias passed out and a rogue spark lit up the trees. Andres dragged him out, and later the fire was chalked up to a nearby hiker.

Andres talked about the incident and explained his powers, though Matias denied everything. He said the fire was Andres' lighter, and the puma was just a puma. Andres eventually let the subject be in fear that Matias' mother would find out and do something about it. Even though he dismissed it, from then on there was a nagging feeling at the back of his mind that his mother was right.

Ever since the incident with the puma, Matias noticed that people were more prone to touching him. People purposely bumped into him in the school hallways, teachers increasingly put their hands on his shoulders and were more lax with him, and some found him the object of their affections solely for a fleeting touch of his. A few people he dated even admitted to it, and it continued into his adulthood. He also found that after each of these interactions, he became increasingly tired, and sometimes ended up almost fainting.

Eventually, after they both graduated high school, and things went downhill for both. With time, the two grew apart, and Matias started to believe his mother's writings. He didn't tell her anything about his worries, and he didn't know what it'd do to her if she found more evidence in support of her hobby, and in her son no less. He started doing his own research, and even contacted a couple of ability users and met with them to test out what he could do. This was when he finally figured out his powers.

Years later, the two bumped into each other. Andres got Matias to go for a walk with him, to catch up, and they ended up in a seedy part of the city. They stopped in front of a building, and before Matias could react, Andres grabbed him and used his fire abilities and burned it down. As it was in public, everything devolved into chaos. As it turned out, it was the base of a rival gang of the gang Andres was in. Video of Andres grabbing Matias surfaced and the fire surfaced, the supernatural human affairs agency was called in. Everything was contained quickly.

Andres and Matias were arrested, though Andres was promptly shipped off somewhere. Matias was kept in a holding cell for several days until someone came in holding a mysterious letter. It detailed the puma incident, accounts of those who had felt Matias' abilities, and even his mother's status as a supernatural believer. The letter stated that if he joined, his mother's research wouldn't be destroyed as she had information on the human affairs agency that they weren't partial to being spread. Not wanting his mother's hard work to go to waste, he agreed, though he couldn't tell her anything, otherwise human affairs would take care of both of them.

At first, he was offered to join Argentum in Buenos Aires as that was agency for South America; however, the second the opportunity to join Aurum in Vienna cropped up, he took it. Central & West Europe had been the home of many of his favorite authors and it had been a pipe dream of his to live there, at least, until now. Matias told his mother he was running off with some person he'd supposedly met online, and, wanting him to be happy, she wished him the best.

Ambition: He partially did it for his mother, but there was always the underlying reason that he felt useless. Matias believed he was going to work in the flower shop he had worked at after he graduated all his life, so this gave him an opportunity to actually do something with his life and actually be worthy to be called his mother's son since she'd always do anything to help anyone - not to mention he'd be able to travel like he's always wanted to. There's also the fact that Matias feels an agency like this would be one of the only places he'd be able to learn to control his powers so they wouldn't kill him and he wouldn't have to be so closed off anymore.

Random Trivia:

He hates being called Matt, Matthew, or any variation thereof
His voice is rather deep and doesn't fit him very well. People tend to be a little suprised when they first hear him speak.
He knows both English & Spanish very well, especially considering his mom is an English professor, but he still has a slight Spanish accent when he speaks English.
Matias spends far too much time reading & watching Netflix, and sometimes he even spends a whole 24-48 hours awake because of it. After years of doing that, his circadian rhythm is kind of off and he seems to be more lively in the middle of the night.
There isn't much he's afraid of (aside from having his energy completely sucked out of him), but Matias seems to be pretty wary of animals of any shape & size. Once you see the pale scars on his right ass cheek that resemble unhuman teeth, you can figure out why. There's also other incidents he doesn't like to mention. Luckily, this fear doesn't seem to press towards the supernatural creatures.
